Red Centre Tour June 2018

Another epic trip completed in the red centre. With everyone coming away with some great shots and some new information about how to use their cameras to get the best out of them. If you come on a trip with me you can expect to be challenged but in a way that will help you improve your photography. I will push you to try new things if your more of a novice and am generally not far away if you need help with something. I always show people what I am doing and seeing so they can try something different and get a little more creative with their own work and style. Its all about sharing information and helping each other in an easy going environment full of great locations. The more you put in the more you will get out of my trips. Yep you will get tired as we have very early starts most mornings and late finishes but with my itinary I have done my best to break it up so your not completely wrecked which is for my benefit also as I will not drive exhausted as its outright dangerous. I know this area like the back of my hand and the best spots and when the best time to photograph is so do yourself a favour and book on next years trip if you want an easy way to see the best locations without having to do a massive amount of homework and research as I have done all that already and am good to go. You can read the testimonials from this trip in the testimonials tab and from the other trips that I run. They are all great trips and full of their own challenges. Hope to see one day :)

Red Centre Tour June 2018

Hi Julie
Thanks for your running your workshops I am glad I didn’t hesitate too long when hitting the book now button on the Red Centre Trip.
I had watched your work online for sometime and had great admiration for it and the opportunity to see how you work and pick up some hints was irresistible .
This was first time I have done a trip dedicated to photography and was a little nervous I would have the skills required to get the most out of it but I am very happy with what I have achieved with your guidance. A bonus was the small group of four who were all like minded people and great company.
Julie your knowledge of the areas, and dedication to getting us to the best positions ensured we made the most of our time and money ,the accomodation and food was great and very well organised.

Thankyou

kind Regards

Red Centre Tour June 2018

Many thanks for a memorable workshop and a wonderful experience in the Red Centre, Julie. Your advice on photographic technique was invaluable and the experience you brought was much appreciated. Your organisational skills were impressive - particularly in view of the distances covered, the varied locations visited, and the standard of accommodation and meals. The companionship of other enthusiasts added to the enjoyment of the trip.

With very best wishes

Red Centre Tour June 2018

Thanks Julie for a great trip.  You had arranged very diverse and interesting locations – and your timing for each was much better than I had experienced before.  Also very interesting watching how you capture your photos.  It might not seem much but you use techniques of lighting I had not contemplated.  Overall, you worked our little arses off but it was all worthwhile.  Now to process the little buggars.

Flinders Ranges Tour May 2018

May 2018 Flinders Ranges workshop. Wow. Locations and weather ;-),  courtesy of Julie - couldn’t ask for more.  The three of us on the workshop benefited from of all the hard work Julie has put in over the years with epic locations - and some not quite on the beaten track.  As the group was small, Julie was able to give us that personal touch with help and advice individually and as a group.  Lighting was sometimes tough yet the encouragement was there for us to push ourselves, to look around and take shots that otherwise we would have missed.  And for me, a city boy, the night sky is underwhelming, but the couple of night shoots in the Flinders were amazing. Days were long - but the scenery, the company, the food, the good humour more than compensated.

So thanks Julie for the tips and encouragement.

Flinders Ranges Tour May 2018

Another trip finished for 2018, we had a great time out. All guys on this trip so the banter was rampant. I decided to change the accomodation on this trip and split it between a station stay and Wilpena Pound Resort which worked quite well. The weather was perfect but very cold. I challenged the guys to push the boundaries in challenging light in certain areas within the Flinders. The gorges are tough to shoot at the best of times and need to be approached with thought to get the best out of them. I explained my approach to this and challenged them to have a go at it too. They all got some fantastic shots. Job done!!

thanks for a great trip guys hope to see you next year in the Red Centre.

Flinders Ranges Tour May 2018

Hi Julie,

Thank you for an amazing workshop in the Finders Ranges.  The accommodation and food were good and the company was great.  You took us to some stunning locations and managed to get us there at the right time for the best available light.  Although we were three experienced photographers , you challenged us to find and shoot some more difficult shots, that otherwise we would not have attempted.  We all came away with some stunning images.  It was a wonderful learning experience and you have inspired me to push my boundaries to further my enjoyment of photography. The post processing tips that you passed on will be very helpful.  I look forward to another workshop in 2019.

 Kind regards,

Cliff (NSW)

An inspirational women

Sometimes something happens and it just needs to be shared with others, this is one of those stories. If it helps a few of you to get off your arses and just do something its worth sharing....................

CHRISTINES STORY........

I decided to share a very special story which happened a few years ago now on one of my Lake Eyre workshops. A lady by the name of Christine booked in and turned up and I quickly worked out she was lacking confidence and had so much self-doubt but more than that she was sad and I sensed it straight away. I had no idea of Christine’s background but I knew something was up. Sometimes on these trips I am more than just a teacher or guide I become a councillor and a friend and I take on what others are feeling as I tend to be very sensitive believe it or not if you have met me I am a very strong woman but I have another side very few see.

As the trip went on and we started talking I will never forget the conversation in the car when she told me she had recently lost her husband who died very suddenly and they had been married for over 20 years probably closer to 30 years I cant quite remember but I just remember thinking how devastating it would be to have a partner for that long, be so reliant on them and then loose them. This conversation delved into her being very reliant on her husband for most things over the years and now he was gone.

I asked her what bought her out here to Marree and she told me life was to short and the shock of her husband passing away had motivated her to live life to the fullest so she was motivated by my story and wanted to come out to see me and the area. This was a big deal for her I could feel that. She had never been anywhere without her husband, never been to the outback, never been camping, never been so lonely.

She drove herself greif stricken from Victoria to Marree to see me, that in itself is bloody inspiring to me. When she told me this as we were driving back in from a morning shoot and there was so much self doubt going on, I simply turned to her and said just look at what you have done you booked a workshop, you got in your car and drove all the way here to Marree, your better than you think you are. And with that she started crying and said thankyou so much and I was trying to hold back my tears also, and I meant every word I said. This was a special moment for both of us. It was the start of her journey and I was part of that.

Christine has come a long way since then, she has been been back out here again with a presence that is undeniable and full of confidence and positive vibes. From someone who was petrified of coming through the Quorn pass to someone who now has been camping and travelling all over outback Queensland and the Flinders on her own. She took a leap of faith and didn’t let fear rule her life like so many of us do in so many ways. She says I inspired here but it’s the other way round for me. The other thing I want to mention is her adult sons who not only encouraged her to get out amongst it but helped her get set up properly and safely so she could start travelling and seeing some of Australia. Bloody legends in my mind.

So many people especially men would have said you can’t do that or your crazy and we let them do it!!! But this is a whole other write up for another time. Below is a short statement from Christine to me, which was on my facebook timline as we have been friends for a few years and this has prompted me to write this now as I think its time to share.

FROM CHRISTINE

This lady took me to some amazing places and gave me some extraordinary experiences and taught me some phenomenal photographic tips, but best of all she helped me to see what was hiding inside of me and encouraged me to find the courage to dig deep and release it!
Thanks Julie - I am so glad we met!

Flinders Ranges Tour May 2018

The 2018 Flinders Ranges workshop was a cracker.   All the pieces were in place - accommodation was comfortable, food was great, company was ideal and the beauty of the ranges needs to be seen to be really appreciated.   Each day the locations and subjects we photographed were simply stunning, and far more varied than I had expected.

Best of all though, the workshop was a truly great learning experience. Julie has a very positive, no nonsense way of teaching and she encouraged us to take on shots that I previously, had I even thought of them, would have run away from.   I certainly didn't manage to bring them all off successfully, but by the end I was doing well enough to be seriously encouraged to go looking for the shot.   This is my second workshop with Julie and each time I have learned something which has significantly improved my photography skills and which will add considerably to my enjoyment of photography into the future.

At this stage, I'll definitely be back for a third outing in 2019.
