MY NEWS AND ESCAPADES

Julie Fletcher Photography

I have been pondering the best manner in which to highlight to all and sundry the extraordinary experience on two (thus-far) tours with Julie Fletcher. The difficulty I have is that it would be too easy to throw the words “brilliant”, “extraordinary”, “mind-blowing”, “surprising”, “exhilarating”, “challenging”, “fun” etc. around like cheap confetti at a bogan’s wedding but that just seems so… well just plain understating the experience.

Perhaps rather than those usual platitudes I could look at the outcomes; I am after all an engineer and client capability outcomes are the way we tend to measure project performance. The Flinders Ranges tour in 2016 produced three images I have on my walls at home which (still) solicit a calming smile when I gaze at them. Whatever other words I may use to describe the trip (brilliant, extraordinary, mind-blowing, surprising, exhilarating…) the success for me really rests on those prints hanging on the wall which I have no plans in removing anytime soon. To me this is an extraordinary measure of the tour success in all its dimensions that I just could not state in better terms.

To get to that point required some extraordinary coaching and mentoring – using both a carrot & stick, me not being the cleverest of people so need to be beaten a few times to get the message  by  Julie. By the end of the 5 days I was starting to ‘get it’ and translate my previous tolerable-but-not-competent photographic expertise into the landscape environment. Having thoroughly enjoyed/laughed through the tour and newly upskilled, when it was finished I just wanted to repeat the experience. I would have immediately shouted ‘Hell-Yes’ if Jules said how about we just do it all again.

The recent Red Centre tour just overwhelmed in every respect, so much more than I thought possible. I have some photos being currently mounted and looking forward to them gracing my walls very soon. The shear serenity and ‘awesomeness’ of the experience I hope is conveyed through those images and I anticipate many many calming smiles long into the future as I wander about my house. I simply cant find better words that could possibly describe the experience… well perhaps an almost-equal is a quaint expression from my humble country upbringing used only for extraordinary occasions; that the tour was the “chook’s tit”.

So, would I recommend a Julie Fletcher tour to anyone who has a DSLR and knows where the knobs for ISO, aperture and shutter are… HELL YES!

This is my third time in this magazine now which was a special edition about trees. This image was taken again one of my tours a couple of years ago at Ormiston Gorge in the Red Centre.

Just recently getting back from my Red Centre Tour I have had brilliant feed back from my new itinary I painstakingly put together over many weeks of travel and planning. Everything ran smoothly as far as timing and getting into locations with as much time as possible to explore and options for the more adventuous. Everyone came away with some fantastic images and were all ecstatic that the tour exceeded their expectations. What more could i ask for. There is alot of driving on this trip to get from one location to another but it is totally worth it. Accomdation does vary a fair bit from more basic to luxury but thats just part of the outback and we have four different locations for accomdation too finishing at Yulara Resort for the last 2 nights. Unfortunately next years prices have gone up due to the price of accomodation at Yulara Resort being massively increased. We are always close to where we need to be for the locations and best light possible to give you as much opportunity to capture fantastic images. I have a few spots off the radar that I introduce people too also as i freely share these spots and how to get the best out of them with your camera. I recently won a couple of awards with shots taken in the Centre and this year my interpretation of Standley Chasm has been shortlisted in 2017 Nature Comp ANZANG along with 5 other images in various outback locations.

I really hope to see you soon for this epic trip.

bye for now

Red Centre Photo Tour July 2017

If you want to get the best out of your photography, learn to see and compose the best images, and want to share in the excitement of capturing the stellar performance of a dark night sky, then this is the tour for you. Sign up for the next one before it's too late! Just to look at the posted images Julie has taken around the Red Centre will tell you what to expect, but in reality your expectations will be exceeded. You may have to work hard for your images, but believe me, it is worth putting as much effort in as you can.  The days are full, but there were plenty of laughs and good times along the way. The added excitement of a sunrise helicopter flight over Uluru and Kata Tjuta was a great way to cap off a brilliant trip.  Julie is a focused and dedicated photographer willing to share her passion with those willing to listen. You will receive the greatest benefit from her knowledge of photography and from her knowledge of the area.  Her tour was beyond awesome. I have come home after 7 days excited about the images I took and know these images deserve something better than remaining on my hard drive. I also come home knowing I have made new friends. Finally, I am looking forward to taking part in another photography journey with Julie in the future.

Testimonial - Christine Silver

this lady single-handedly changed my life!
not only did she open the door to show me a whole new world in photography and inspire me to keep learning (which I am still doing!), but she also showed me that I was capable of much more than I thought and encouraged me to 'have a go'! this realisation has kept me going through the many ups and downs I have faced over the past 2 years (and without me knowing, even before that).
I am so pleased I forced myself to make that first trip to Marree in 2015 (and again in 2016) and I can't wait till I have my 'life' sorted and can spend more time practising the skills she taught me in my photography!
Thanks for being a part of my life Julie.

Marree Lake Eyre Workshop April 2018

If you have never shot the outback then this workshop will open your eyes and stretch (and possibly challenge) your talent. Julie has found many hidden gems amongst the rough to photograph around Marree and Lake Eyre, but it's not as easy as it sounds. Although Julie will describe her…

Flinders Ranges Tour August 2016

Where does one start - well my one wish was to learn how to use my camera on manual mode ! My impression of Julie prior to the tour to a week after finishing has been nothing but professional – at the same time I was very much a beginner…
