Julie is a passionate landscape and nature photographer dedicated to capturing the breathtaking beauty of Australia’s diverse natural environments.
“Julie is incredibly inspiring and recognised as one of Australia’s most talented landscape photographers. Her unique approach, passion, and exceptional eye for composition allow her to harness light creatively, bringing her subjects to life in truly remarkable ways!
Born in Adelaide, South Australia, I moved to Sydney in my early 20s. However, it was only years later that I decided to pursue my passion by studying photography, ultimately earning a Diploma of Commercial Photography. This pivotal step set the foundation for my career transformation.
Today, I am back living in my home state of South Australia, although my work frequently takes me across the country.
For the past 20 years, I have been travelling extensively across Australia, working on diverse projects and teaching the art of landscape photography.
My offerings include photography tours, in-person workshops, and now online training sessions, which provide a new level of accessibility and convenience for aspiring photographers everywhere.
From the remote outback regions to the pristine ocean coastlines and untouched wilderness areas, I strive to create images that are a unique expression of the space. Often, I revisit these locations until they feel like home, ensuring my work embodies a deep connection to each place.
My mission is to inspire the next generation of photographers, particularly women, to believe in their ability to achieve their goals.
Equally, I aim to raise awareness of the fragile beauty of Australia’s landscapes and the need to protect them for future generations.
My work has appeared in numerous publications worldwide and has earned over 50 prestigious awards, including:
Additionally, I have served on judging panels for competitions such as the Loupe Awards, Pano Awards, and the Wilderness Magazine Photo Competition, contributing to the photographic community with my expertise.
Hi Julie, Thank you so much for the chance to attend your photography workshop at Marree in September. For me this was a marvellous opportunity to improve my photography skills and visit a part of Australia I have always wanted to see (and will be back to visit again!). Over the 3 days I captured some pretty impressive images. Travelling to Marree on the edge of the outback is a lot easier than it once was. A 2 day drive from Melbourne was very simple. Especially if you compare it to the 5 days it used to take to just go from Marree to Birdsville. The biggest challenge is limiting the photo stops at all the interesting things you see along the way. Even more so on the return journey, with all the new ideas and techniques to practice. What an amazing location you have for these workshops. Marree put on a show for us every morning and night. Staying at the Marree roadhouse was wonderful, simple hearty food and glorious hot showers made the visit all the more pleasant. How nice are the people! They are friendly, funny and very interesting. Lyall is definitely one of the Australian outback treasures, but you know that already J I really enjoyed the many interesting landscape locations we worked at in and around Marree. The clever techniques you taught us with creative lighting have given me a set of tools to use for producing some really interesting images. It really struck home to me how valuable it is to have someone like you teach me techniques that have taken you years of trial and error to develop. Techniques that I could learn and apply in the field in a very short timeframe. I am even now thinking of ways to test the limits further using your techniques. The class room sessions provided a great interactive environment, taking on Photoshop with my limited experience of this particular software meant my learning curve was steep. I appreciated the small group size as this allowed me to get the answers to the questions I needed while keeping us all moving along at the same pace. The small group also made it easy to share ideas and learn from each other’s experiences along the way. Thank you again for everything you taught me, I highly recommend that anyone even thinking of doing one of your workshops should jump at the opportunity.

Thank you so much for the special photographic experience. I look back through my pictures taken while on the photographic tour of the Flinders ranges with Julie and realise the research she has undertaken to make my photographic experience a truly memorable one. It was packed full of adventure and diversity and with a small group of 4 Julie managed to make sure that each of us received individual attention specific to our individual needs. I thoroughly recommend this venture to all keen photographers. The Flinders ranges is a wondrous area of Australia "My dreams came true".

Testimonial Marree Lake Eyre Workshop August 2017 I can't recommend this workshop highly enough. The locations were all challenging and varied greatly in their nature. Lake Eyre was simply breathtaking and, for me, the intro to astrophotography was a real highlight. Julie encouraged us to stretch ourselves creatively, supporting us with plenty of help re possible approaches to shots. As a result, I came away from the workshop having really learnt something, both in terms of photographic technique and in terms of image creation. Add to that the whole Marree experience, which was simply great fun, and the workshop is one I would recommend to any photographer interested in creating better landscape images.
